Silk printing knife engraving template

silk printing template is composed of a pre made sheet with a pattern. The earliest kind of template is a template with knife cut patterns. This ancient pattern reproduction process is to put the template on a plane, then apply ink, and then press the substrate on it. After being removed, a printed matter is obtained. This craft was first discovered in the 12th dynasty of Egypt, about 2300 BC

before the first World War, woolen cloth products were difficult to be printed by ordinary printing methods. This period was the first time that this template was used to print woolen cloth products. The role of template in silk printing is the same as that of gravure in gravure printing technology. The printing plate in silk printing industry has greater advantages than other printing plates: it can reach thousands of prints; It can be made by hand, etching or optical and chemical methods; The area can be large and fine; Can print solid line or halftone; It can be printed manually or mechanically; It can be printed at manual printing speed, or at mechanical speed if necessary, with a maximum speed of 5000 prints/hour

There are about 40 different types of printing plates in silk printing, but the ideal solutions for customers are either made by hand or by photography. Handmade printing plates can be divided into direct production and indirect production. Usually, the manual preparation of silk plate has the following three aspects: knife cutting, design, cleaning or increasing the printing resistance. The photographic silk printing plate is made with the help of light and chemical methods. It mainly has three types:

(1) direct photography. That is, the emulsion is directly coated on the silk of the printing plate

(2) direct indirect type. That is, products containing templates and emulsions, or directly coating emulsions on silk

(3) indirect or transfer type. That is, first prepare the photosensitizer on a temporary surface, and then transfer it to the silk cloth. Photographic silk plate and knife engraving plate are the two most commonly used types at present. However, because knife engraving template is not only the most practical method in business, but also the earliest method, we will first explain it in detail

on the knife cut printing template, the printing area is cut off, leaving the part stuck to the silk. Therefore, the silk printing plate is composed of the part glued to the silk plate and the silk. The ink will pass through the cut parts of the template under pressure, and the uncut parts of the template will prevent the ink from passing through, so as to get the required pattern. All knife engraving printing templates have the same characteristics and are carved with knives or other sharp tools. These templates mainly include flat paper knife engraving templates, shellac paper, lacquered paper, lacquered decal paper, shellac decal paper, thin plastic paper and commercial silk printing templates

1. commercial knife engraving template

commercial knife engraving template contains a transparent or translucent thin plastic paper, in which a special pre-made film is semi permanently adhered to it. Generally speaking, the template is made by using a kind of adhesive on the back of plastic paper, and then spraying several layers of paint, shellac or sticking the prepared film to the paper with adhesive coating. Commercial templates are generally coated with three to eight layers under controlled conditions, and then pasted on paper or plastic. The self-adhesive is always stuck with the cutting template before it is transferred to the printing plate, and can be removed at any time. You can cut off some areas or points of the template, and then peel off the unwanted parts, but the back support paper should remain intact

the templates adhered to the back support paper have different transparent colors, different film thicknesses, and different roughening or gloss treatments. The colors of templates are usually amber, green, grey blue and red. The reason why the template chooses transparent color is that transparent color can reveal the components of other colors when it is colored with other colors. Another advantage of it is that it is easy to separate the colors, as long as the packaging machine 'target=_ Blank> the transparent film can be distinguished on the top of the pattern without marking each color template. The support is the number and frequency of plastic experiments. According to the requirements, the template of the program material paper has greater transparency than the paper-based template, and more detailed details of the pattern can be observed. Unlike paper backs, plastic backs do not absorb moisture. The absence of moisture is a great advantage when cutting large format printing plates, because large format printing plates are easy to stretch before pasting

the commercial knife engraving templates on the market at present have the characteristics of meeting the needs of silk printing: wear resistance, good flexibility, easy knife engraving, easy peeling, easy bonding with silk, easy removal from silk, and can be stored under normal air conditions for a long time. In fact, it was when manufacturers produced products with these characteristics that the development of silk printing became a reality, because it almost eliminated all the previous methods of preparing silk plates

templates can be divided into four levels according to thickness: thin, medium, thick and ultra thick. Each level has the applicable object of each level, and the medium level template is generally used. When the width of the printing area or line is about half an inch, the thinner the template, the thinner the ink layer; The thicker the template, the thicker the ink layer. But the thickness of the ink layer is also related to the thickness of the silk. When you need to overprint a variety of transparent colors, or when you want to save ink, you should use a thin template. Thick template is conducive to emphasizing the main color; It is conducive to printing text outline; It is conducive to printing wool products and other similar materials; It is conducive to the use of thick wire or metal; It is conducive to printing in metal, wood, glass and wool products; Thick templates are also used when slight color changes need to be emphasized. The production of templates should also be able to meet the needs of many kinds of inks, such as oily inks, water-based inks, varnish inks and so on, but 2/3 of the products exported belong to medium and low-end products

2. Preparation of template

when using the template, the paper mold is stuck to the pattern, the film is on the top, and the part to be printed is cut off manually with sharp tools. Be careful when cutting, and do not cut the paper base on the back. Although this process is simple, there are also some basic techniques that can help printers. The most important thing may be to choose the sharpest knife. Only with a sharp knife can we cut a better printing wire template, just like only with a good pencil and ruler can we draw a good technical pattern. However, for ordinary printers, it is recommended to make some investment in the following tools: a knife; A good metal or glass ruler; One degree triangular ruler and one 45 degree triangular ruler (both 8 inches high); Curved plate; Circular cutter; Adjustable double cutters; Compass cutter; Rotary cutter; A grindstone

although the cutter shown in Figure 48 can be simply made by some drawing tools, it is recommended that you buy the finished product. Because commercial tools are not expensive, and they are made of medical and surgical tool steel; With the sharpness of the razor, it can keep sharp for a long time; When they begin to dull, they can be sharpened very sharply again on the grindstone. The two types of double knives shown in figures 49 and 50 are unfixed and adjustable. They are used to cut parallel lines and parallel curves. The size between fixed double cutters can range from about 1/32 to 1/2 inch (0.08 to 1.27 cm). The cutter head can be easily removed. If necessary, it can be replaced with a different size of cutter head, while the handle remains the same. Adjustable double knives have only one head, but the blade spacing can be adjusted, and the parallel distance can be 1/16~3/4 inch (0.16~1.87 cm)

the circular cutter shown in Figure 51 is designed to cut circles. It has double blades, which can cut left or right. It can be cut with a diameter of 1/16~4 inch (0.16~10.2 cm). The compass cutter shown in Figure 52 can also cut circles, but its cutting diameter is 3/4~27 inches (1.87~68.58 cm). Both circular cutter and compasses cutter can cut single line and double line, which mainly depends on whether the cutter head is single or double

in addition to the above cutting knives, the die-cutting knife should also have a rotary knife. The rotary knife has a rotating blade, which is used to cut curves. During cutting, the blade can rotate freely or be fixed at a certain position. All the above cutters can also be used to cut paper, cellophane and celluloid plates

before using the template, it must be ensured that its storage time is not too long. Because the template placed for a long time is difficult to cut, the color is dark, and it is not easy to apply film. Although the templates with better production can be stored under standard air conditions for about one year and still remain intact, it is best to store them in an environment that is neither wet, nor too cold or too hot. Any unused template paper should keep its original barrel shape, and the film surface of the template paper should be outward to prevent separation from the paper base

experts in the field of die cutting usually open the film roll for cutting at night, which can give the film a time to adapt to the indoor environment

when preparing to carve film, fasten the pattern on a flat table. Cut a template 2-4 inches larger than the pattern and stick it on top of the pattern. Then start cutting the film. Be careful when cutting the film. The knife can only penetrate the film layer, not the paper base. If the paper base is cut through, it will be difficult in the mucosa. Therefore, the knife must be sharp, and the film can be cut off under slight pressure. If you are a beginner, you'd better practice cutting straight lines, curves or circles first. You can cut some simple patterns during practice

if the printer wants to cut fine details, it is recommended to use a magnifying glass. The magnifying glass is not expensive, but can be rotated to different viewing angles and positions, and can also empty your hands (Fig. 53). If it is necessary to cut details continuously, it is best to equip a magnifying glass that can be worn on the eye. Any magnifying glass can magnify two to three times. If you need a better light, it is recommended to put the light in front of the operation at a distance of about 6 inches to 1 foot (15.2~30.5 cm), which can reduce the reflection of the template and make it easy to see the cutting lines

when cutting the film, cut the intersection slightly (Fig. 54), otherwise the film is not easy to peel off. After cutting, peel off all pattern films (Fig. 55). If a large area of film is stripped, cut a strip through the paper base in this area, which is conducive to sticking the template to the wire and preventing the paper base from bending during the film pasting process

when it is necessary to make an urgent job, especially when a pattern is too large for one person to complete in a short time, many die cutters cut the whole template together with the paper base and pattern, and then cut it by different people. When cutting, do not use uniform segmentation, which is conducive to the synthesis of the film when sticking together to form a complete pattern

3. Film

generally speaking, there are two types of templates: paint film template or template that can be softened and dissolved by paint solvent, water-soluble film template or template that is only dissolved by water or aqueous solution. There are two methods to apply film: solvent method and heating method. Solvent method is the most commonly used method. This method is to wet the template enough to soften it and make it stick to the silk. Heating method is to use a heated iron to stick the template to the wire

make sure the wire is clean before applying the film. If the silk used is new, it is recommended to wash it with clean water or soapy water. Cleaned
